Morning Prayer

A Morning Prayer for Depression

Getting out of bed feels impossible some mornings — but you did it, and that matters.

God, everything feels heavy and colorless. Motivation is a foreign language right now. I'm not asking for a miracle — just enough light to take the next step. Walk with me through this fog. Don't let the darkness convince me it's permanent. Be my reason to keep going today.

Depression lies about forever — but every morning is proof that darkness doesn't get the last word. Amen.

When to pray this

Depression lies about the future and it lies about you, and it is convincing because it uses your own voice. On the days when prayer feels like talking to the ceiling, the praying still counts. Please also tell someone real — a doctor, a counselor, a friend who will follow up. If you are thinking about harming yourself, contact a crisis line or emergency services now; in the US you can call or text 988.
