A Prayer for Depression

Depression tells you nothing will ever change — but depression has been wrong before.

God, the fog is thick and I can barely see the point of anything. I'm not asking to feel happy — I'm asking to feel something. Any flicker of light. Any reason to try. Remind me that depression is a liar with a loud voice but no authority over my future. You hold my future.

Depression is a chapter, not the whole book — and God is still writing your story. Amen.

When to pray this

Depression lies about the future and it lies about you, and it is convincing because it uses your own voice. On the days when prayer feels like talking to the ceiling, the praying still counts. Please also tell someone real — a doctor, a counselor, a friend who will follow up. If you are thinking about harming yourself, contact a crisis line or emergency services now; in the US you can call or text 988.
