A Prayer for Forgiveness
That person you can't stop thinking about — the anger is only hurting you.
God, I'm holding a grudge that's poisoning me from the inside out. I don't feel like forgiving but I'm choosing to because You forgave me first. Break the chains of bitterness around my heart. Free me from this prison I built. I release them to You now.
Forgiveness isn't saying it was okay — it's saying you refuse to carry it anymore. Amen.
When to pray this
Forgiveness is not saying it did not matter, and it is not always reconciliation — sometimes it is releasing a debt you were never going to collect anyway. It is also rarely finished in one sitting. You may have to pray this more than once about the same person, and that is normal.
