A Prayer for Temptation
That thing whispering your name right now — it's promising what it can't deliver.
God, I'm being pulled toward something I know will hurt me. The temptation feels stronger than my resolve. Be my escape route right now. Remind me what I'm fighting for. Give me the clarity to see past the momentary pleasure to the lasting consequence. I choose You instead.
Temptation only has the power you give it — and God gives you power over it. Amen.
When to pray this
Temptation is strongest when you are tired, alone, or already discouraged — it is patient and it waits for those conditions. Pray in advance of the moment rather than only inside it, and tell one trustworthy person.
