A Personalized Ornament for Your First Christmas Married: What to Put on It and When to Order

How to choose and word a first Christmas married ornament, what names and dates look best, and the order-by date for delivery before Christmas.

Our First Christmas as Mr & Mrs ornament on a tree

The first Christmas after a wedding is the start of a tree you will decorate for decades. A dated ornament is the one gift a newly married couple will take out and see every single year.

What to put on it

Keep it to first names joined with an ampersand: Jake & Emily reads better in script than full names. If the couple shares a new last name, a family-name ornament (The Millers) works too, but most couples prefer their first names on the first one.

Use the year of their first Christmas married, not the wedding year. A December 2026 wedding still makes 2026 the first Christmas.

Short is better. On a 3-inch ornament, names of about 20 characters or fewer print large and easy to read.

Engaged, not married yet?

An engaged couple gets the same treatment with OUR FIRST CHRISTMAS ENGAGED. It pairs naturally with the married ornament next year, so you start a little series without trying.

Who gives it

Parents of the bride or groom, the maid of honor, best man and close friends all give these. Because it is small and under $30, it also works as a stocking stuffer from the couple to each other.

If you are buying from a distance, ship it straight to the couple: enter their address at checkout and add a note in your own card.

When to order

Each ornament is printed to order in the USA (2 to 5 business days) and mailed by standard US shipping (usually 3 to 7 business days). Order by December 5 for delivery before Christmas. After that we still make it, but we can't promise it arrives by the 25th.

Every order's artwork is checked before it prints, and your confirmation email repeats exactly what you typed, so reply right away if you spot a typo.
